Dr. Kamal Araj, Independent Consultant & Former Vice Chairman, Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC)

Dr. Kamal Araj is an Independent Consultant and the Former Vice Chairman of the Jordanian Atomic Energy Commission. Before joining Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) in March 2008 as Commissioner for Nuclear Power Reactor, Prof. Araj served as the Government Advisor for Nuclear Energy for about a year. Since 2006, Dr. Araj was the scientific advisor for King Abdullah Development Bureau (KADDB). Dr. Araj worked as a senior advisor at the IAEA in Vienna for 5 years. Prior to that, Dr. Araj was an international consultant in energy and advanced technology in Washington, DC. Among his clients were the management consulting firm, RCG/Hagler, Bailly, Inc., XERAD, Inc., the BDM Corporation, Argonne National Laboratory, and the U.S. ACDA Previously, Dr. Araj has held academic and research appointments at MIT, Harvard University, Brookhaven National Laboratory and U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Araj received both his B.S. in physics and B.S.E. in nuclear engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He obtained his Ph.D. at M.I.T. in nuclear engineering with a minor in energy technology and policy. Dr. Araj has published widely and directed many national and international research study groups in nuclear physics, advanced nuclear power, laser technologies, renewable energy sources and global climate change.
