Mr. Charalambos Theopemptou, Member of the Parliament, Cyprus

Mr. Charalambos Theopemptou is a Member of the Parliament in Cyprus. He is the Deputy Chairperson of the House Standing Committee on the Environment (2016-2021). He studied electronics in London, and after a few years was appointed as a lecturer at the Higher Technical Institute. From early 1990’s was involved in the environmental NGO “Ecological Movement” which at the time was the best known environmental NGO. As a result of this intense action, in 2006 was appointed by the then president of the Republic as the first Environment Commissioner of the island. On the completion of the term of office in 2013 he was appointed as a lecturer at the Environmental Science and Technology Department of the Cyprus University of Technology. In May 2016 was elected as a member of Parliament for a five-year term and he is now serving his second term in Parliament. He is currently the chairman of the Parliamentary Environment Committee and a member of the Law and Agricultural committees.
